SEVEN Great Things About Staying at the Whiffletree Manor House:

Connection & Refreshment

Part of our mission as a LOCAL regenerative farm is that we want our customers to have a real connection with us and our farming. We think that when it comes to food and farming, everyone and everything is happier and better for knowing and experiencing (even if just a little bit) how that food is raised.

We think it will make you glad to see happy animals in clean, lush pastures; make you smile to hold a baby chick and feel its little feet tickle your palms; make you sigh to see a cow lazily chewing its cud; and refresh you to walk along our stream and hear and see it babbling over the rocks.

If you have seen too much concrete and screens, and not enough of growing life; heard too much the sound of motors and crowds, and not enough of the quiet of nature, then this might be a great stay for you.

You could enjoy all the above at Whiffletree if you were staying in a tent, but we have the good fortune to offer you a home that pairs with the place and experience.

    A Home to Pair
    With the Place

Spend your days going for walks and connecting with nature and our farming, maybe get a little dirty and tired; but retire to the comfort, coziness, and character of the Whiffletree Manor House.

The Whiffletree Manor House, which was built around 1885, has a great combination of historical character, renovated polish, coziness and comfort, and a variety of indoor and outdoor spaces to facilitate good conversations and peaceful refreshment.

The bedrooms are comfortable and have great views. The bathrooms and kitchen are nicely renovated. The dining room and living room are cozy and have great bay windows looking out over our beautiful pastures. The cocktails served from the antique pass-through bar taste better.

Enjoy the light and a larger social space in the sun room, or spill outside to the fire pit to watch the sunset, or to the hot tub and watch the stars.

The Manor House is provided with high-speed internet via Starlink.

    A Unique History

Whiffletree Farm is in one of the prettiest parts of Fauquier County that has a rich tradition of beloved estates that have revolved around race horses and fox hunting–think stone walls and well-cared for old homes. Viola Winmill was the matriarch of Whiffletree Farm from the 1930s to the 1970s, and she was at the center of that horse world in its heyday. She was a fancy and interesting lady. To just give you a taste– she had Jackie Kennedy over to Whiffletree Manor cocktail parties, and there is a photo of her in full length zebra coat standing next to the zebra she imported and trained to pull a cart. While you are here you can peruse her biography, Gone Away with the Winmills
